An epiretinal membrane is a thin layer of scar tissue that grows across the central fixation point (macular) of the eye. It is a common condition and often develops in older individuals and may have no other causes than age. However, they may also be seen in individuals with other eye conditions like diabetic eye disease, vein occlusions, age-related macular degeneration and eye injury, etc.
